Famdamly History

I'm sure most of you little Mormons out there have heard about the New.FamilySearch.org website. Well, I am officially in love with it! Yes, I would marry it if I wasn't already attached.

It became available for me to use about a month and a half ago. So the very first thing I did was get online to see how far back my Selman line went. (That is my maiden name.) The last one with that name was Charles Selman, born in 1762 in Cricklade, Wiltshire, England. It listed that he was born near St. Mary's church. So I decided to Google it and this is what I found:

The little church is still around today. Hello to my great-great-great-great-great grandpa and grandma's church! I thought that it was pretty neat that I found their little church and thought I was done looking at that line of my family. But over the next few days I started to wonder what would happen if I emailed them looking for more information. So I did. And I also emailed the local museum. Both of them responded within just a few weeks! In fact, one of them sent me this old pedigree chart.


So I've been checking names and fixing a few things on NewFamilySearch.org and along the way I have found some people who need their work done. I just got back from the temple after doing baptisms. It felt so great! I'm just loving it!

Funny story: As I was leaving the baptistery I was chatting with an older gentleman who was a temple worker. I told him about how I got some family information by googling and emailing for it. He said that when he was doing family history the way he had to do it was by mailing off letters to churches. Then he asked me if I kept a journal because this family history story would make a great entry. And I said that I kind of keep a journal, but that I would probably just blog about this. And he just looked at me like I was a different species of being! I couldn't imagine doing family history the way that he had to, and I think he is having a hard time fathoming how I am doing it!
